While the Jew huddled in his ghetto as a symbol of his isolation from the European Christian environment, the general sentiment of the Christian populace up to the French Revolution was that the Jew was a “Christ-Killer” and not to be trusted.

In the aftermath, the two halves of the XVIII th Legion met and were unified upon Antaem's dead coral plains. As their saviours removed their helms and the Terran Legionaries looked upon the faces of their brothers and he that was their gene-father, they could not help but know that they were one and their Primarch had come to claim them. The survivors of the Terran XVIII th knelt immediately, it is said, before their Primarch, but Vulkan bid them rise, saying that all his sons were equals and he was no petty king needing shows of obedience. Instead, it was he who knelt in honour of the lives they had saved and the price they had paid. Then, seeking out the mortally wounded Lord Commander Vaughn, he conferred the formal transfer of the Legion's mastery by presenting the fallen warrior with the broken Power Klaw of the Ork Warlord who had struck him down to seal the pact between him and his Legion -- they would fight for him, but he would fight for them in turn.

For Bloch, communism is a type of humanism, indeed, the strongest possible affirmation of human life. He imagines a community in which, for the first time, we understand, judge, and evaluate everything in human terms. George Kennan wrote of the Soviet Union that “here men determine what is true and what is false.” Bloch’s view is not so crude. Philosophically, he means that we should see the world in light of its relationship with our practical needs and highest social ideals. Bloch believes this is both liberating and humanizing; there is nothing “out there”—no alien law, system, or process—to which humanity must slavishly subordinate itself. Politically, he means there is no inherent obstacle—sin, selfishness, the lust for power—to building a community that reconciles freedom and equality.

From the sublime to the ridiculous, the denim-leisurewear-clad funk legend sent himself up while seriously enjoying his back catalogue, running the gamut from a storming Shaft to the very silly South Park hit Chocolate Salty Balls.
